How do I flush my water heater?
If you want to keep your water heater working properly for years, you need to flush it at least once a year. To do so, you can either work with a professional or follow these six steps.
If you’re interested in flushing your own water heater, do the following:
- Cut the power and water supply to the water heater.
- Attach one end of a water hose to the drain and the other end in a bucket.
- Turn on the water heater’s faucet and drain the water into the bucket, until the water starts to run clear.
- Turn off the faucet.
- Turn the water heater back on.
- Switch the water supply back on to refill the tank with clean water.
