Where is the dip tube located on my water heater?
Dip tubes ensure your water heater is evenly warming the water in its tank. The dip tube is located at the top of the water heater and extends to the bottom of the tank.
The dip tube is a long plastic tube that connects to the cold water inlet, entering the top of the water heater and extending to the bottom of the tank. It transports cold water to the heating elements at the bottom of the tank, so if it breaks, the cold water has no chance of heating.
Note, not all water heaters have dip tubes. If your water heater’s cold water inlet is at the bottom of your rank, your unit won’t have a dip tube.
